New Polane-painted wood stocks provide unmatched durability, weather resistance, and custom appeal for demanding outdoor use.
Cody, Wyo (July 2025) – Big Horn Armory (BHA), makers of big-bore firearms, is proud to announce a rugged new upgrade for its tactical lever-action rifles: painted wood stocks are now available for the Model 89 Black Thunder and Model 89 White Lightning. Using a two-part Polane polyurethane enamel, these new stocks are offered in gray with black webbing or black with gray webbing, combining custom aesthetics with exceptional durability and field performance. Watch the recent Off the Bench, Episode 23, where they discuss this new painted option.
“We’ve had a lot of customer interest in finishes that can stand up to tough weather, hard use, and still look sharp,” said Greg Buchel, Owner of Big Horn Armory. “These painted stocks are not only functional, but they’re also beautiful, durable, and easy to maintain or touch up after the hunt. They bring real-world value to two of our most popular rifles.”
Unlike composite stocks, these are hand-finished wood stocks coated with the same type of industrial-grade Polane paint used on heavy-duty machinery and precision bolt-action rifles. Polane paint offers higher resistance to abrasion, impact, and chemicals and is excellent protection against corrosion. It is easy to refinish for scratches or chips, should that ever happen.
The Model 89 Black Thunder and the Model 89 White Lightning, both chambered in .500 S&W Magnum, offer hunters and shooters a modern lever gun with classic western lines. Built on the same robust action as BHA’s Model 89 lever guns, these tactical versions include stainless-steel construction, a factory-installed Scout rail, a hunter-friendly curved lever, and now, the option for a painted web stock design built to thrive in any environment.
Painted stock options are now available as a factory upgrade when ordering directly from Big Horn Armory. For more on Big Horn Armory, please visit www.bighornarmory.com or any of its social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, MeWe, LinkedIn, TikTok, or X.
About Big Horn Armory:
Big Horn Armory was founded in 2008 with the expressed intention of designing a Browning-type lever-action gun chambered in 500 Smith & Wesson Magnum. The Big Horn Armory Model 89, made in America, closely follows the work of John Browning with refinements courtesy of modern metallurgy and machining capabilities. The first rifles began shipping in September of 2012 and since then, BHA has added to their big bore lineup with a Model 90 Carbine in 460 S&W, the Model 90A in 454 Casull, the Model 90B in .45 Colt, the Model 89A in 500 Linebaugh and the Model 89B in .475 Linebaugh. In 2017, Big Horn Armory took a departure from its lever-action series and developed the AR500 Auto Max, the most powerful short-range, semi-auto based on an AR .308 platform.
